Thomas Brindley

Francis Brindley Born on Hanchurch Hills Farm in the Parish of Trentham, Staffordshire, he was baptised 1st February, 1796 at St. Mary and All Angels Church, Trentham. He married Elizabeth Phipps 12th February, 1820 at St. Mary and All Saints Church, Whitmore, Staffordshire and they had: Mary born Keel 1820; Elizabeth born Winchill 1822; Whitehurst born Hanley 1824; William born Liverpool 1827; Sarah Ann born Liverpool 1828; Thomas born Birkenhead 1830 or 1831; Jane born Tunstall 1833; John born Tunstall 1835; Georgina born Tunstall 1837; and Emily born Thornaby 1841. Francis was a butcher, but became a potter and moved about the country to find work. The family moved to Thornaby, Yorkshire about 1840, and on the 1841 census Francis and most of his children worked at the pottery. In 1861 we find Francis in the Union Workhouse, Stockton on his own and on 25th June, 1869 he died there of paralysis aged 75. He was buried at St. Thomas' Church, Stockton on the 28th June, 1869.

Trentham Church

Whitehurst Brindley Baptised 1st January 1758 at St. Mary and All Angels Church, Trentham, Staffordshire. His father rented a farm of 20 acres at Toft Green in the village of Hanchurch in the parish of Trentham. Whitehurst married Mary Stakes at Trentham Church 2nd December 1784 and at this time his father left him to run the farm. Whitehurst and Mary had: Elizabeth born 1785; Ann born 1787; William born 1788; Elizabeth born 1789; Mary born 1790; Francis Hitchin born 1795. There was also Thomas, John, Jane and James, but I cannot find a record of these baptisms. Whitehurst died 24th December, 1813 and was buried on 29th December, 1813 at Trentham Church. In his will he left over £3,000 to be divided amongst all his children.

Eavesford, Kingsley

John Brindley Baptised 16th September, 1721 at St. Werburgh's Church, Kingsley, Staffordshire. His family farm was Eavesford in the Parish of Kingsley, Staffordshire. He married Jane Whitehurst on the 4th October, 1746 at St. Margaret's Church, Wolstanton, Staffordshire and they had: John born 1747 Kingsley; John born 1749 Kingsley; Samuel born 1750 Kingsley; Whitehurst born 1757 Hanchurch; Mary born 1761 Hanchurch; Dorothy born 1763 Hanchurch; Richard born 1768 Hanchurch. There was also Jane and Ann, but I cannot find a record of these baptisms. John rented a farm of 20 acres at Toft Green in the village of Hanchurch in 1751. When his son Whitehurst married he left the farm for Whitehurst to run and rented a farm of 6 acres at Hanchurch Brook. John sold Eavesford (which had been in the family for about 300 years) in 1797. He died December, 1806 (aged 85) and was buried at St. Mary and All Angels Church, Trentham. Continue to John Brindley's (1721-1806) family sheet.

Wolstanton Church

Jane Whitehurst Born 1725/26 and daughter of Richard Whitehurst of Chesterton in the Parish of Wolstanton and Mary his wife. She first married William Hancock of Chesterton - a gentleman - but was widowed young, for on 4th October, 1746 when she was only about 20/21 she married John Brindley. They had: John born 1747 Kingsley; John born 1749 Kingsley; Samuel born 1750 Kingsley; Whitehurst born 1757 Hanchurch; Mary born 1761 Hanchurch; Dorothy born 1763 Hanchurch; Richard born 1768 Hanchurch. There was also Jane and Ann, but I cannot find a record of these baptisms. Jane died 1801 and was buried 9th September 1801 at St. Mary and All Angels Church, Trentham.

Trentham Church

Mary Stakes Born about 1760/61 she married Whitehurst Brindley on 2nd December, 1784 and they had: Elizabeth born 1785; Ann born 1787; William born 1788; Elizabeth born 1789; Mary born 1790; Francis Hitchin born 1795. There was also Thomas, John, Jane and James, but I cannot find a record of these baptisms. After Whitehurst died she remained on the farm paying the rent of £156.00 per half year. Mary died 1816 and was buried at St. Mary and All Angels Church, Trentham 20th May, 1816.

Keele Church

Elizabeth Phipps Baptised 15th August, 1797 at St. John the Baptist Church, Keele, Staffordshire. She married Francis Brindley on 12th February, 1820 at St. Mary and All Saints Church, Whitmore, Staffordshire and they had: Mary born Keel 1820; Elizabeth born Winchill 1822; Whitehurst born Hanley 1824; William born Liverpool 1827; Sarah Ann born Liverpool 1828; Thomas born Birkenhead 1830 or 1831; Jane born Tunstall 1833; John born Tunstall 1835; Georgina born Tunstall 1837; and Emily born Thornaby, Yorkshire 1841. In 1871 Elizabeth was living with her daughter Jane, in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. She died 22nd August, 1874 at Byker.

Thomas Phipps Married Sarah and known children are: Mary born Keele 1795; Elizabeth born Keele 1797; and Walter born Keele 1799.
