Mary Ann Foster Maule




Shilbottle Church

George Maule Born 12th June, 1810 at Newton on the Moor, Shilbottle, Northumberland, and baptised St. James Church, Shilbottle 5th August, 1810. He married Elizabeth Foster 4th February, 1835 at St. Nicholas' Church, Gosforth and they had: Joseph Thomas born 1835 at Alnwick; Margaret Isabella born 1837 at Alnwick; Mary Ann Foster born 1840 at Alnwick; Elizabeth Ellena born about 1842 at Darlington; Jane Isabella born 1848 Darlington; and Harriet born about 1852 Darlington. Elizabeth died in 1867 aged 56 and George married Mary Johnstone 1869 at Jarrow. He died 6th May, 1873 in Jarrow.

Newton on the Moor

Joseph Maule Baptised 14th June, 1783 at St. Michael's Church, Alnwick, Northumberland. He married Catherine Davidson first and they had: Mary, born 1802 Howtell; William, born 1804 at High Middleton; James born 1806 at Shilbottle; and Margaret and Catharine (twins) born 1807 at Newton. He then married Isabella Hudson 27th August, 1809 at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Longframlington, Northumberland and they had: George born 1810 at Newton; Eleanor born 1813 at Newton; Joseph born 1815 at Newton; and Grace Isabella born 1821 at Newton. Joseph died 1848 and he was buried at St. James Church, Shilbottle with his first wife and son Joseph. On his headstone is - Sacred to the memory of Joseph Maule Master of the Free School at Newton on the Moor 43 years. Died April 16th 1848 aged 65 years.

Warkworth Church

James Maule Born 23rd September 1746. He became a school master. He married Mary Smails 11th April, 1768 at St. Lawrence Church, Warkworth, Northumberland and they had: Robert born 1769 at Warkworth; Alexander born 1771 at Alnwick; James born 1774 at Alnwick; William born 1776 at Alnwick; John born 1778 at Alnwick; Isaac born 1780 at Alnwick; Joseph born 1783 at Alnwick; Benjamin born 1785 at Alnwick; Henry born 1789 at Alnwick; and Frances Mary born 1792 at Alnwick. James died 14th November, 1808 aged 63 years and is buried at St. Michael's Church, Alnwick, Northumberland.

Eglingham Church

Alexander Maule Born 23rd August, 1724 and married 3rd June 1745 at Eglingham, Northumberland to Jane Willis. Known children were: James born 23rd September, 1746; and Alexander born 23rd February, 1748. Alexander died in 1775.

Coast at Eyemouth

Alexander Maule Born about 1700, and 'Farmed near Eyemouth and was much hurt in his circumstances about 1730, by Exchequer writs issued against him for smuggling'. Known children were: Alexander born 23rd August, 1724; and a daughter who married a paper maker and settled in the Merse.

Mary died 12th January, 1797 at Alnwick and is buried at St. Michael's Church, Alnwick, Northumberland.


Isabella Hudson

Isabella Hudson Born 29th December, 1781 at Burradon in the Parish of Alwinton, she was baptised 13th January 1782 at Harbottle Presbyterian Chapel. She married Joseph Maule 27th August, 1809 at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Longframlington, Northumberland and they had: George born 1810 at Newton; Eleanor born 1813 at Newton; Joseph born 1815 at Newton; and Grace Isabella born 1821 at Newton. After Joseph died she lived in Alnwick for a while, but was living in Jarrow, Co. Durham when she died 31st December, 1860 aged 79 years ('a little old lady with roses in her back yard'. She was buried 2nd January, 1861 at St. Paul's Church, Jarrow.

George Hudson Married to Eleanor and known children were: Grace born 1775; Ellender born 1777; John born 1778; Isabella born 1781; Jane born 1784; and Margaret born 1786. All were baptised at Harbottle Presbyterian Chapel.
